Definitely option 2. I use Skype for all things: chat, phone calls, pc to pc calls. It would be a great thing not to have Skype opened together with Digsby.

If you still have to have the skype client on your machine. Then what is the point of Digsby intergrating into the build. The whole point of skype is the ability to video call from one pc to another. I feel that it would be use of energy to work on the video calling feature in Digsby. The fact that folks can not send you video request is very limiting.....

Point is, if you need Skype to be running it means Digsby will behave just like Trillian does... even if I try to login into another Skype account, it will insist in using the one already running on Skype. So what's the point? Having the same account running twice?? I need 2 Skype accounts running at the same time, so Im planning to use the regular Skype for one of them, then my other account on Digsby together with a bunch of other services (gtalk, msn). Call/Video won't be needed at all for me, I can still use regular Skype IF I need those, so I think option 2 is definitely the best.

i use skype for calling land and cellphones mostly, so i dont think it would suit me either way.
i only want 1 program. not multible.
my isp does a 5 gig limit.
opening multible programs to use 1 program will get expencive.
sorry i cant help you in this topic.

Option 1 sounds fine to me... Chat functionality is more than enough for the moment... Skype can then be used for Voice etc... Do it in stages.

Frankly, without Skype IM support (Option 2), this software is totally worthless to me. Currently I have many Skype and Yahoo IM contacts and Skype is more of a standard outside the U.S. and many in the U.S. use Yahoo. I would love a single piece of software that worked with Skype and Yahoo so if anyone knows of such software, please let me know. Doesn't look like Digsby is headed that way.

Went from Digsby to Trillian for the Skype support. Turns out that also with Trillian you have to have Skype running to be able to chat with your contacts. This made Trillian unstable and confusing to use. Please Option 2.

Hope this Skype thing will happen soon, any option will do really. I think Digsby needs it to breathe some new life and excitement into the project and its supporters.

do not waste your time with option 1 !!!! haven't used feature in trillian or gaim as its more then pointless, its annoying as you get duplicate messages
reverse engineer skype (imo.im already did it !!! so its possible, unfortunately on a PC imo.im is webbased, but on other platforms it works as an application as well, maybe reverse engineer that or ask them nicely for the reverse engineered source code )
also i personalty only need TEXT support, i dont care about the rest of the clutter, no video, no audio needed... i just have to be reachable via text IM
skype voice will soon be obsolete in the western world, why would i use a bad quality VOIP when for $25 (total/month) i get unlimited calls/text/north american long distance on my mobile phone, i just use my phone to voice talk (toronto, canada)

I use Skype audio with calls all around the world, don't care about the US, I have an Ooma phone which is free calls anywhere in the U.S.

This topic is almost 3 years old. I've decided that I'll stop using Digsby this year due to it's lack of Skype support. It seems the project has reached a bit of a dead end, with the developers concentrating more on Twitter than IM clients... boooring.

I like option 2. I only use Skype when I have to (really making a phone call, etc.). Skype does NOT have a good GUI for text chat so it's really meaningless to keep it up and running in the background all the time... I would rather just have digsby running all the time... thanks!
Please add Skype support ASAP we really need it very bad!

Option 2.... Skype's client is way to clunky and annoying, and another reason why I prefer Digsby.

need over 2 years of feedback before deciding?
I'm going for option 2 mixed with 1: start skype when voice is needed (f.e. when someone is calling have a 'answer call' open up skype)
keep up the good work
