Control how chat windows blink? Hotkey to show/hide Digsby window?

I'm a long-time Trillian Pro user trying out Digsby. Looks great so far. It's very easy to manage various messaging accounts, the Status Panel is very useful, and the Preferences > Buddy List > Contact Layout advanced settings are excellent.

Couple questions,

1. Is it possible to assign a hotkey to show/hide the Digsby application window? Something like Trillian's Ctrl+Shift+a.

2. Is it possible to control the blinking behavior of chat windows? When you get a new message it would be nice to limit the number of times the chat window blinks indicating you have a new message in the conversation, to make it easier to ignore.

1. We had something like that in earlier versions but is currently disabled because we got complaints of it interfering with common shortcuts for other apps.  It will be making a comeback sometime though.

2. There isn't a way to change the number of blinks yet, though that is an option I may try to get in there next time I'm changing code in that area. (You'd have to sacrifice the cycling names though in order to enable it do to limitations with changing window titles)

If you'd like you can disable flashing all together by using the methode mentioned  at http://forum.digsby.com/viewtopic.php?pid=15928#p15928 with the following keys.

conversation_window:
  notify_flash: no

Note that these could possibly change in future updates though.

If you let users edit the shortcut key combo they could fix any conflicts, although easier said than done of course!

Speaking for myself I would readily sacrifice cycling names. It drives me nuts when I'm trying to ignore a window and it blinks forever on the task bar instead of stopping after X number of blinks or staying lit up. But maybe I'll try your trick plus enable notifications.

Actually, now that you mention it, you can, instead of setting "notify_flash" to no, set "cycle_unread_ims" to no, it should then use the default windows blink settings ^_^

Note that this is not very well tested, which is the reason it's kind of hidden.  I ran like that a while though and didn't have any problem.  There will be some more hidden options for this soon, such a flash duration and number of times, probably in the next alpha, as I'm making some changes in there for the standard behavior.

Bam. This fixed the reason I kept walking away from Digsby. Was definitely a deal breaker for me, but I'm minimally-notified and happy now. Thanks, Aaron.

i can't get the fix to work, no matter where i put the prefs.yaml file, for those of you who had success, could you explain exactly what you did?

On XP I created C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Digsby\prefs.yaml and added the following:

conversation_window:
  cycle_unread_ims: no

For anyone using Vista/Windows 7, you'll want to put the prefs.yaml file in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Digsby

So,I have a concern. I'm having to update the defaults.yaml every time that Digsby automatically updates itself. It is starting to wear me down. Is it possible that I can set updates to manual and/or is it possible to have Digsby ask if you want to update your defaults.yaml file. It seems to happen every few days.

themeehe as has been said over and over in these forums by the Devs DO NOT EDIT DEFAULT.YAML instead create a prefs.yaml and put your changes in there.

Honestly, Digsby is the best integrated IM messenger there is on the market these days.  It has everything I need and I have converted everybody I know to use it!

The only remaining problem that I have with Digsby is this issue of the infinite blinking notifications.  I understand that it is a lot more frustrating if notifications don't come through to a person (AKA missed messages), but the incessant blinking is a bit overkill.  This config change above seems like the closest solution so far and it would be great if this could be implemented into the UI!

This has been a feature request for 2 years already and it is a  stain on the Digsby brand that it hasn't been addressed yet when it is clearly a dealbreaker for many loyal users.

All we would like is for the icon to stop blinking.  Please.

Thank you again for your wonderful product.  I am still a dedicated user that won't uninstall or switch just because of this niggling issue.

under win7 it is still blinking / flashing is there no way to turn this off

The question is still unanswered. Why there is no option to disable flashing in the taskbar ?

This is one of those things that is asked for a lot, and is yet one of the most unanswered issues. Workarounds get posted, etc. and yet years later, there is still no option to just turn the flashing off. Pidgin does it. Trillian does it. Other programs do it. Why is it so damn hard to do with Digsby?

Okay guys, I've figured it out. I'm using Windows 7, 64 bit. Put the prefs.yaml in C:\Program Files\Digsby\res. Worked perfectly for me after that.
