When Digsby Servers Go Down...

is the application still usable? Does it store a local copy of all settings/configurations/etc so that I can continue to use the application while the digsby servers experience problems?
I would expect no further updates and obviously no server side configuration to be stored but hopefully the application is still usable.

Very good point here actually, surprised this didn't come up before. If something were to happen to the Digsby servers for a prolonged amount of time I'd imagine this would hamper individual's ability to connect to their other IM services via Digsby no?

It would be good if the application is still available to be used, hopefully they have/will make it so that in the case that digsby servers are unavailable it will attempt to connect securely to our various IM accounts via locally stored and encrypted passwords/contact data.
And with this an option to not use the digsby servers at all (if we choose not to)

If you were already logged in digsby when our servers go down then digsby functions just fine. The only things to be aware of is the fact that any account changes will not be stored. You preferences however are stored locally and will be synchronized when it reconnects to the digsby server.
As for logging into digsby when our servers are down -- we have tossed around some ideas as to how we want it to function but we do have plans to allow you to use the client in the event that our servers are down. As soon as we have finalized this you will know about it.

not true. They will be synced when digsby automatically reconnects within five minutes of the servers coming back up. The necessary condition for this to succeed is that you don't exit or log out of digsby in the meantime.
This is the same behavior for any lost connection, such as your internet connection dieing. So, beware if you lose connection in one place and not another. If you make changes at the logged in location, those will overwrite any changes at the disconnected location.

This is a big problem and needs to be rectified.

Because the servers always go down? Really, let the devs worry about this and implementing a solution before you get hostile.

@Jeter2Fan93:
WRONG. This should be fixed. Store my passwords locally. Fine. But if the Digsby login/passthru servers die, I still want to be able to use the software.
Why do we log in through Digsby, anyways? Portability is honestly NOT that important, because I don't like logging into IM services from other people's computers, "secure" or not.

Maybe for you it's not important, but for me it is. I use several computers at home, and I regularly reinstall Windows. So I think it's very useful that my settings are saved online. Usually after a total reinstall, it takes me a LONG time before I finally have all the settings the way I want them, so if Digsby can reduce that time just a little bit, then that's awesome. For me, the biggest advantage of Digsby is that it's such a time saver.
I'd still like to see a feature that lets you backup your settings offline so you can always use them just in case.

Yes, I know, I'm that big of a security fan, I also don't use firewalls because it slows the system down. (and I never had a single problem from not using a firewall)
But I disagree with you that it's such a security threat. Ok, I have to give Digsby all of my passwords. But Google, Yahoo and Microsoft also have my passwords.
Conclusion: We just have to trust them, because if you don't you can't use their services.

Exactly, right. Just never thought of it that way. All services you register at have your password encrypted or in some form. It's your general trust that lets you use their service, and if you can't trust them, then its simple as to not use it.
@Patelski: lol I don't use a firewall either. (Just Windows Firewall to keep the notifications from annoying the hell out of me, but I don't consider it a proper firewall since it doesn't do anything really)

I also turned off Windows Firewall. I don't know why anymore, it's been a very long time since I had it on, and I didn't get into any trouble.

I agree with you guys. The only thing I have running is PeerGuardian and I guess the firewall on my wireless router. That and smart browsing and downloading habits have kept me virus and spyware free for years.
Parth, you can turn the notifications off in Windows Security Center.
And randyaa needs to calm down. I have seen him in a few threads here demanding features from the developers on software that is barely out in public beta. He acts like he paid $500 for this software.

@MerchantMilan: Yeah that's what I did for some time, but I'd rather have SOME protection rather than none at all. Even though Windows Firewall does nothing, it makes me feel better if its on. XD
It's easy to avoid spyware and adware these days, just don't go anywhere that says "HEY YOU WANT A FREE IPOD NANO?! WELL JUST FILL THIS SURVEY AND YOU'LL GET ONE!"

the fact of the matter is, the way its implemented just doesn't make any sense.

It's implemented just fine, all passwords are encrypted. What doesn't make sense?

Why does the server need to exist? Can we have the OPTION to store our settings and passwords remotely? I would feel much better, as others have stated, if everything was stored locally and I could use Digsby as a standalone application (like miranda or something).

The server grants magical powers.
Seriously, has no one used digsby on a second computer yet?
