Emoticons and custom sounds should be an addon, no need for being default in the program - that'd make the program more bloated than it needs to be.

Ew... emoticons. smile

You consider 58 MBs (the total filesize of the directory that Digsby is installed in) to be small?

Well I would notion the custom emoticons request because I'd like to see the custom emoticons Windows Live Messenger users are using. It has been done by Trillian Astra so I know it's possible.

Just go to C:\Program Files\Digsby\res\emoticons\default (path might be slightly different on your system) and change the icons. emoticons.txt seems to be the setup for linking smilies etc to actual emoticons.

... and now for something completely different

I've made a quick mock-up of the emoticons available in MSN (http://messenger.msn.com/Resource/Emoticons.aspx). At this point I've only added the smilies (25 of them).

You can grab it here: http://folk.ntnu.no/hodne/digsby/digsby … ticons.zip
(Note: I of course take no responsibility, you download at your own risk. I'm generally a nice person, though.)

Unfortunately it doesn't look like digsby support animated GIF's as some of the icons are. Only the first frame of the animation is displayed.

Edit: Updated version here: http://forum.digsby.com/viewtopic.php?pid=498#p498

That is something I miss. The webcam and the nice emotions on msn. The webcam should be a part of digsby though. That's the only reason I have to keep at least msn on my computer. If digsby had it i wouldnt need it

I'm not talking about custom smileys on just your end of the screen. I'm talking about the ones you can add to WLM that everyone can view regardless whether they have the particular smiley or not.

Screenshot of custom smileys in WLM: http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/2166 … eyszx9.jpg

It has been done in Trillian Astra so I know its possible.

As for the webcam, I'd rather wait for chatroom support in MSN/AIM/Yahoo before we get to something that complicated.

I definitely want the Webcam support; it's the one thing keeping me from being able to totally abandon any other IM client.

Add in Skype, too, and it's just about perfect.

It would be amazing if we could have different emoticon sets depending on what chat protocol we are using with the person we are chatting with.

Hector, I just realized that I misunderstood what you meant in the entry to the wishlist you made about "custom emoticons". I now see that Custom emoticons is not the same as dynamic emoticons based on protocol (e.g. showing the standard WLM icons when talking with people on WLM and so on).

A custom emoticon entry to the wishlist with a link to this post will of course get approved if anyone have the time to articulate it properly.

Don't worry, some code for this has been written, just not exposed yet (as some of you guessed due to the presence of the word "default").  Remember, new features really aren't the priority right now, bug fixes are.  But on this one, I'm pretty confident you'll see it eventually.

As far as webcam goes, well, that's on the list, but not likely in the near future.

P.S. I'm currently using the AIM emoticon set on my laptop.

These has been added to the wishlist. Vote on the Webcam entry or the one for
Custom emoticons if you'd like these features.

It would be nice if we can specify from which person we would like to receive custom emoticons. Some people on msn use more then 5 custom emoticons in every sentence, I find it very annoying to read. I was discussing this with a guy called Ruud, and he said it wasn't fair for him that I couldn't see his custom emoticon, only because other people had ruined it for him by misusing custom emoticons.

Hopefully somebody gets what I mean and translates it into something more understandable tongue

All I want is a simple to use guide of how to import new smileys or emoticons into the emoticons folder so I can use it in Digsby chat. Is that too much to ask for? I'm not a tech wizard.

Don't wast your time, even if digsby allow setup custom emotions, you are the only one who will see the custom emotions because digsby will NOT send out the custom emotions to the other side so your friends will not see them...  I wonder how many of you digsby users known about this "fact"... Read my recent post and Digsby Developer's respond about this issue here:

   http://forum.digsby.com/viewtopic.php?id=3735

Looks to me they would need more request from their users before they consider to implement the sending out of custom emoticons to the other side...
