How about an IRC client. I know there are tons of clients out, but if I can use one program, I would prefer to use it.

My personal preference is xchat, however if digsby supported irc I'm sure more trillian users would consider jumping ship. I wouldn't use it though wink

...Unless digsby is ported to blackberry* - jmirc is a disaster big_smile

IRC would rock, especially properly integrated.

Well I suppose if it blew the socks off of XChat I might change heart and worship Digsby IRC ^_^

However it still could be a Digsby-Developed plugin rather than a shoddy and scary third-party plugin. That way it'd still be properly done.

Add me to the IRC Camp!  This is a *HUGE* one for me as I am an IRCop on our local server.

I'm tired of firing up pidgin (previously Xchat) for IRC, knowing that something as awesome as digsby could be the only program I run!

Cheers,

If Digsby were to do an IRC Plugin/implementation into the Program, it'd certainly have to offer two modes of use. A default simple/easy mode for the every day person, and an Advanced mode that can be set to default for IRCOps/SysAdmins/NetAdmins/Advanced Users with an extensive set of usability.

I'm quite content with how I've got XChat running for me (I'd fall into the Advanced Users category) and I do not see an advanced IRC client for Digsby any time soon - even after all the Bugs are fixed up and the Dev Team is focusing on features.. It'd take a while to get something like that right. wink Then again, who knows.

We use IRC for our internal company chat. Right now I use Chatzilla through Mozilla, but would love for Digsby to have an IRC option. A couple of my co-workers would even jump from Trillian if we had IRC on Digsby.

For what it's worth: adding a good IRC implementation into digsby will probably solidify it as the best IM client ever, in my opinion. I frequent several IRC channels and this this feature is the only thing left that I need out of this program smile

If Digsby added IRC I might actually use it.

Irony is difficult on the internet, but just to make it clear; it's photoshopped. Quick mock-up to show the devs how I'd like it over at http://digsbies.org/site/node/137

Just putting in my support to include an IRC module for Digsby. No more using chatzilla for me then. smile

I would too love IRC in digsby. Pidgin has an alright implementation of it. A few big features I'd like:
1. Integration with NickServ
2. Ability to stay in a channel when the window is closed. Pidgin calls this "persist". So if someone sends a message in the chat, it will pop open the chat for you.
3. Ability to control that pop up behavior (only on the mention of my name, or for any message).
4. Do smart stuff, like ignore join/parts. No one cares when people leave or join channels.

I would just like to say that IRC support is the only thing that is keeping me from moving to Digsby over Trillian Astra. I think I speak for plenty of trillian users when I say we are more than fed up with their incredibly long development times. Astra has been in development for over a year and it isn't much more than a pretty GUI. I'm ready to say goodbye to trillian for good, but I need a program that supports IRC along with all the other protocols. Pidgin is OK, but I do like my programs to have a bit of style to them. Digsby seems to fit a perfect niche in between pidgin's low resource use and trillian's style and I can't wait to switch!

Thanks guys.

I would be all for IRC support in Digsby. It's the only reason why I miss Trillian. It's SO much easier to have an IRC client IN my IM program. Cuts down on the # of programs I have.

IRC support in Digsby should be implemented, even though i might not use it.  It's a big part of the chat world.
