No messenger has inbuilt support for SKype to my knowledge.

Trillian claims to have that but seriously: real inbuilt chat support would at least mean you get only one chat-window. Trillian Astra is able to start skype, and to open a chat. Problem: It opens one Trillian Astra window and the skype chat window... if anyone sees an advantage in that, please tell me, i wouldn't call it inbuilt support if still the whole program runs, blinks and peeps on its own. And Trillian Astra is still the best Skype-supporter, so I'd say there is a lot of work for the devs if it's even possible. (I think, it's not, we're gonna need a change in Skype to get this.)

It is a legal mine field. The Adium team was looking into it but dropped the idea.
PS Skype has been sold to a new owner.

Only a legal minefield if Digsby try to reverse engineer the Skype protocol.
Perfectly legal to use the Skype API. Yes, this means that Skype starts up when you startup Digsby. I think we can all afford the 20MB of RAM or so that Skype takes up.

You can tell Skype to stop doing that. I don't remember the setting, but Trillian sends an API call to Skype to tell it to go into Silent mode. Skype will pop up box to confirm this, with an option to never ask again. You do this, from then on, Skype will be silent while Trillian (or as we would like, Digsby) has control.

for pidgin there is a skype chat available. without having skype opening a message window. pidgin puts skype in a so called "passive mode". Works great. Until the plugin stopped working with my new skype app version

why is skype so closed to all other? its so damn hard to get it in other aplications >.< and they r like open source - pew pew
question for dev team, is it rly skype integration droped?
i have one silly idea - if they dont give skype protocol and things easly.. maybe solution is to make digsby open skype in himself. not start parallel skype but to open "skype" in digsby.. it would look like skype, even i dont mind on commercial of skype (only when and if i use skype protocol in digsby).
soo.. image it like 2x lists, normal as so far + skype style & design. same thing on msges... skype stlye. this way they would keep skype popularity and would spread a word about skype, and same time we would have protocol in digsby. even it wouldnt be same as other protocol, and would be lil complicated - but hey, better that than have seperatly skype and digsby on taskbar

And what about IM+ or Nimbuzz or Fring for mobile phones? They do have Skype support.
This is a top priority feature for many users

The only way to have Skype talk work with any other client is to have Skype installed and use the official API to connect through the Skype program. The fact you have to run the Skype program as well as the other client makes the whole point of running the other client pointless.

Well, it's not pointless to have all chats from all IMs in one window.

Well , VoxOx did it: VoxOx Is Like Digsby Plus Skype @ Lifehacker although as a software is the definition of memory hog. I think the first step for Digsby is to call the Skype API if Skype is running and at least get the list of the users. The next milestone is to get that chat into Digsby (since Skype didn't bother putting tabs). We surely don't expect Digsby to provide voice support from day one, but I think the first steps will be useful to many Digsby lovers out there and is not that hard to achieve this. Merely a suggestion.
